The 1974 Volkswagon Thing was one of the more unique vehicles we've had in the shop. It's a bright yellow convertible Thing that needed new floor pans welded in, some body work, and a fresh paint job. Here is what it looked like when it first came in...
'74 VW Thing - Before
The first thing we do with our restorations and paint jobs is remove the doors and other parts. Then, we get right to sanding. The VW Thing had rust on the floor, so we replaced the entire floor pan. Depending on the amount of rust, we may choose to repair just the one area, or weld in all new ...
'65 Ford Econoline Van BEFORE pic
The 1965 Ford Econoline van got quite the TD Customs transformation. It came in with a two toned paint job, with red on the bottom and white on top. It also needed some rust repair, new rocker panels and other body work before paint.

Metal work rust repair
Like always, the metal work was the first thing we dived into. When there is any rust on a body of a vehicle, you need to cut it all out before doing anything else. Rust spreads very quickly and easily, so taking out the ...
A 1971 Chevy Camaro was just in for a restoration and paint job. When it came in, it was white and needed some attention. There was some rust, as well as body damage that needed to be corrected. Here is what the Camaro looked like Before...
Taking care of the rust and body damage takes up a good portion of the restoration process. The length of time and amount of work needed depends on the condition. Some imperfections are easier to correct than others.
When the body work is all done, we prime the car and get it prepped for paint. The first thing we always ...
The '68 Plymouth Satellite classic restoration we just wrapped up needed overall body work and fresh, factory original paint. The body was in moderate condition, but we had to repair a lot of rust. This entails grinding out existing rust, cutting it out, and replacing the old steel with new steel. From there, it gets smoothed over and fitted perfectly into place. We also spent a good amount of time sanding the exterior body to get the panels straight.
The paint color is the original paint from 1968; a deep green color that looks almost black in the shade. It's ...
One of the recent paint jobs we did was a '90 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The truck was being done for a soldier overseas in the military. We were able to communicate with him via phone and email, and his parents brought and picked up the truck. He's seen pictures of the finished product, and is excited to have a beautiful, redone truck to come home to.
We did a full exterior restoration and factory-original paint job on this one. There was body work that needed to be done, as well as some rust repair on the body and the frame. For the frame, we repaired the rust ...
The 1964 Ford Galaxie full restoration is complete, and looks amazing. We did a lot of rust repair and body work to the entire car, and replaced a quarter panel. We got the bumpers rechromed so they look shiny and new again, had the upholstery completely redone, and of course, repainted it back to it's factory red color.
The last time you saw the Galaxie, it had just been stripped down to bare metal and put in its first stage of primer. Read about the Galaxie's first stages in this '64 Ford Galaxie Progress Report. We've done a lot of metal and body work since ...
We recently had a 1931 Chevrolet Cabriolet in the shop! We absolutely love keeping older classics like this on the road. We don't have our usual Before photo because this one didn't come in all put together.
We're happy to work with what our customers want, so not every job we do is the same. In this case, the owner enjoys working on these old classics and puts them together himself. What he needed from us was the expert body work and paint.
For those wanting to know what a '31 Chevy Cabriolet looks like, here is a picture plucked off of Google. (Unlike other shops ...
This cool classic car just makes you want to sing Prince's song, "Little red Corvette" - especially after seeing the After photo. This 1980 Chevy Corvette came in needing some body work and a fresh paint job.
We did away with the bottom side skirts you see in these Before pictures. Instead, we fitted the car with an earlier C3 Corvette rocker panel in a satin black finish. We also replaced the fiberglass front and back bumpers.
The first order of business was to start working on the areas that needed body work. This includes any waves, dents or imperfections ...
The latest full paint job here at TD Customs has been this 1964 Ford Mustang. It came in a bright yellow color, and the owner knew she didn't want to keep the color.
The first order of business on this classic car was to strip the paint. We used a chemical paint stripping process to completely bring the car down the bare metal.
Follow the link to learn more about the chemical stripping process done on this '64 Mustang!
After the car has been brought down to bare metal, we can then get a good look at the car. We can see how the shape of the body is, and any ...
Oh hello, 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Nice to have you back for the rest of your paint job!
Awhile back we had this 1963 Studebaker Avanti in the shop for engine bay and door jamb repainting. The owner wanted us to get all the inner jambs and the engine painted, and then take it to get a motor put in, and then bring it back for the exterior paint job.
We don't usually do paint jobs in stages like this. However, if it works for a customer in terms of budget or their preferences, we are happy to do so. In this case, the owner specifically wanted the engine bay ...
