Little Red Corvette Restoration & Paint Job

This cool classic car just makes you want to sing Prince's song, "Little red Corvette" - especially after seeing the After photo. This 1980 Chevy Corvette came in needing some body work and a fresh paint job. We did away with the bottom side skirts you see in these Before pictures. Instead, we fitted the car with an earlier C3 Corvette rocker panel in a satin black finish. We also replaced the fiberglass front and back bumpers. The first order of business was to start working on the areas that needed body work. This includes any waves, dents or imperfections in the body of the car. As you can see in these pictures, Erick is block sanding ...

Classic Car Collision Repair

At TD Customs, we know classic cars. We do full restorations on most of the classics that come into our shop, refinishing the entire body to its original condition. As a full service body shop, we also offer collision services on all kinds of vehicles. Most of our collision work is done on modern vehicles, but accidents happen to classic cars too. When it comes to your classic car, we recommend getting it repaired at a body shop that specializes in classic cars. The auto body techs at TD Customs work on classic cars day in and day out.  There is definitely more work that goes into making the body of an older car straight than there is for ...

#NoMoreYellow – ’64 Mustang Full Paint Job

The latest full paint job here at TD Customs has been this 1964 Ford Mustang. It came in a bright yellow color, and the owner knew she didn't want to keep the color. The first order of business on this classic car was to strip the paint. We used a chemical paint stripping process to completely bring the car down the bare metal. Follow the link to learn more about the chemical stripping process done on this '64 Mustang! After the car has been brought down to bare metal, we can then get a good look at the car. We can see how the shape of the body is, and any imperfections that need to be repaired. We note these issues and repair them ...

Hello old friend! ’63 Studebaker back for Paint!

Oh hello, 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Nice to have you back for the rest of your paint job! Awhile back we had this 1963 Studebaker Avanti in the shop for engine bay and door jamb repainting. The owner wanted us to get all the inner jambs and the engine painted, and then take it to get a motor put in, and then bring it back for the exterior paint job. We don't usually do paint jobs in stages like this. However, if it works for a customer in terms of budget or their preferences, we are happy to do so. In this case, the owner specifically wanted the engine bay painted before the new motor was put in. We understand this logic. Putting in a new ...

’64 Ford Galaxie Progress Report

We've got a 1964 Ford Galaxie in the building! As usual, we had Top Notch Towing, our preferred towing company, take care of the tow to our shop. The Galaxie is currently in the original red color, as you can see in the pictures, and will be painted back to its factory-original color from 1964, called Rangoon Red. The owners of this car actually live in Florida and frequently visit the WNC area often. They plan on making the car a family heirloom. We are always excited to be a part of a special family project like this. The first order of business in any restoration is to disassemble the car. We take the doors, hood, and truck lid ...

1970 Plymouth Barracuda Restoration

We've got a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in the house! The '70 Cuda is a pretty rare car that has been brought to us for a full body restoration. Top Notch Towing took care of the tow, and brought us the Cuda already on an automotive rotisserie. Having the car on a rotisserie is a perk, as it makes the refinishing process a little easier. We don't have to bend down or stretch to reach certain areas, and no laying on the ground. Not all cars need to be stripped down completely or will require this much attention to every inch. Before we got started with any of the body work, we needed to strip all of the paint off the car. Since this is a ...

Working on the ’73 Corvette Restoration

A couple weeks ago, we rolled in the 1973 Corvette to get started on its restoration. This is going to be a full restoration, including refinishing and painting the body, as well as upgrading the motor and interior. New interior will be installed once the seats are reupholstered. Here is the Before... For this classic restoration, we are also helping with the motor and getting various upgrades done. The motor needed to be pulled out and taken to Mountain Machine and Performance shop for rebuilding. It's getting a complete overhaul and cam and valve train upgrade. After disassembling several parts and pieces, the first order of ...

‘A Family Classic’ ~ TD Customs featured in Hendersonville Times-News

By Jason Gilmer Times-News Correspondent For years, Tim Donaghue had wanted to wrangle a car away from his grandparents’ storage shed to restore. The owner of TD Customs in Mills River finally got the chance two years ago, when his family in Caledonia, N.Y., told him he could work on a family heirloom. There was one car in particular he wanted to return to its former glory — his grandmother’s first car, a dark blue 1939 Chrysler Royal. It was the car his grandmother learned how to drive in. The restoration, started in 2015, became a major undertaking for Tim, his wife, Tara, and the others who’ve helped with the project. ...

Classic 1940 Ford: Refinish & Paint

The 1940 Ford pickup truck is ready after body work and full paint. The truck came in with the same color scheme; light green with the dark green fenders and running boards. They are not the factory-original colors, but they look great and really compliment each other. All the parts come off the truck to be worked on and then painted. The fenders on these old classics are nice and rounded. When we do body work, we make sure the lines are nice and smooth, and that there are no blemishes. There is a lot of sanding and prep work that go into making sure each one of these pieces is perfect before paint. Once Tim is happy with how all the parts ...

Mountain Motor Show ~ 4.3.17

The Mountain Motor Show was this past weekend at the WNC Ag Center, and there were a lot of awesome looking cars and trucks to be seen. It was a good time! Cars were displayed both inside and outside, with the ones inside being judged for best in their categories, as well as Best in Show and People's Choice. There was a good variety of old classics and new modified vehicles. The car that stole the show with two awards was a '37 Studebaker. TD Customs was there with the El Camino on display. It has our own custom blue and silver paint job, with lace print on the roof, the side sail panels and the scallops on the hood. Quite a few people ...
