Happy 4 Years to TD Customs!

We can't believe it's been four years that TD Customs has been in business, and three years that we have been at this Mills River location. Time sure flies when you're having fun! In 2011, Tim moved to North Carolina, and began working for himself shortly after. He worked out of his 6-car garage in Hendersonville for about a year, and then it didn't take long for him to build up a customer base and begin needing more space. From there, we found this shop in Mills River, installed a state of the art paint booth, upgraded a lot of things, and have been working away ever since. It's been a fun ride. We've met some great people that have become ...

Lumilor Labs’ Training: A Recap

TD Customs just recently got back from the Lumilor Labs' training center in Las Vegas, where Tim took part in a 10-day training course on the new electroluminescent paint application process. The paint is called Lumilor, and it literally lets you paint anything into a real, illuminated light with an electrical charge. The Lumilor paint is made up of a complex system of coating applications. There was a lot of material to cover in the class; everything from applying the electroluminescent coating system to wiring it to an electric current to finally, making the final product look clean and flawless. In applying the Lumilor coating system, there ...

The body shop gets a spruce

Every once in a while, it's time for a little spruce. We've slowly been making changes and cleaning up the shop, but this week we decided to redecorate the front office area of our body shop to make it more fun and inviting. One of the real motivators was that we got so much promotional stuff at the SEMA Show that we needed a place to show it all off. We got a lot of cool posters (quite a few signed!) and pictures, so we knew we wanted to completely redecorate the front office of the shop. The Before... We've been meaning to paint the front room for some time now, but have just been too busy. It's easy to just stay focused on the ...

Whirlwind Vegas trip!

We are home after a couple great weeks in Las Vegas. It was a long trip, but so worth it! Being in Vegas was lots of fun. We gambled a little bit, ate some great meals, and did all the touristy things, like watch the Bellagio fountains, checked out Counts' Kustoms, and even made it to the Hoover Dam. It was a business trip though, with Tim there for Lumilor training and us attending the SEMA Show. Primarily and most importantly, we were there for Lumilor training, which could not have gone better. Tim LOVED the class and really enjoyed learning this new technology. What's not to like? This stuff is so cool! He got to practice on quite a ...

TD Customs is at Lumilor Labs’ Training Center!

TD Customs is finally here at the Lumilor Labs headquarters in Las Vegas! Tim is learning all about the Lumilor product and its application system so we can bring the coolest (and only!) electroluminescent paint product back to the East Coast with us! TD Customs will be one of the first shops in the United States to become certified in Lumilor. Others have been certified from Australia, the UK and even the Middle East. We are excited to get in on the ground floor of this new technology, and can't wait to get to work on some awesome projects! The first day of class was great. Tim is loving it and learning a lot. They talked about the paint ...

Excited for SEMA Show 2015!

We got our SEMA Show passes in the mail! In less than a month, TD Customs will be in Las Vegas for Lumilor™ training and the 2015 SEMA Show! We're so excited we get to be there for both. The SEMA Show is an annual automotive trade show that attracts industry leaders from all over the world. It is open only to industry professionals, and is a great place for businesses to showcase their new products and services to other businesses, as well as unveil them to the public. And there are LOTS of insanely cool custom cars. Basically this is the place to show off the best of what you've got. For a look at some of last year's cars, check out ...

TD Customs to Become a Certified Lumilor Lab!

It's finally time to let everyone in on the super exciting new opportunity we have coming up! TD Customs is proud to announce that we have partnered with Darkside Scientific to become a Certified Lumilor™ Lab™ able to paint with light! We are talking about Lumilor; electroluminescent paint that will light up at the flick of a switch. Tim is always looking online for new paint ideas. About a year ago, he saw a video on YouTube for this electroluminescent paint. We'd never seen anything like this before, and most of our friends hadn't either. We thought about how cool it'd be to be able to do these kinds of paint jobs, so Tim contacted ...

Back to work

It's back to work after enjoying a week off over the 4th of July holiday. We had a great week in upstate New York, visiting family and getting to spend some time at the lake. It's always hard to get back into the swing of things after a nice vacation, but it's good to be home. The shop is full and Tim is back to work. Next up is the full auto restoration on the Mazda truck. It's getting plenty of body work taken care of and a sparkling new paint job. Check back for more updates as we try to put more attention into the TD Customs blog!
