Complete Bed-Off Truck Paint Job

When you love your truck, but it needs refinishing and fresh paint, bring it to TD Customs! We do full paint jobs all the time, like this complete bed off truck paint job. The '91 Ford Ranger came in with rust, sun fading and some other random body damage. Our job was to repair all body dents, rust, and refinish it back to factory - just how it looked back in 1991. Complete Bed-Off Truck Paint Job When we do full paint jobs on pickup trucks, we typically always remove the bed from the chassis. Doing this allows us to get to every part of the truck, including the back of the cab and front of the bed. We take every part off of the vehicles we ...

Line-X: Our favorite bedliner coating

For the Jeep we recently refinished, we had a Line-X Protective Coating applied to the floor and bed. Initially, it was just painted white like the rest of the Jeep. But with the Line-X coating, it gives it a much nicer look and protection from the elements. Line-X Protective Coating Line-X is the first spray-on bedliner that comes with a lifetime warranty. The coating permanently bonds to the truck bed. This allows the surface to be completely sealed from water and dirt. No more worrying about rust or corrosion from drop-in bedliners. We took the Jeep to a Line-X Protective Coatings branch in Canton, NC, and were able to pick it up a day ...

Full Color Change Paint Jobs

Full color change paint jobs are what we, at TD Customs, do best. Whether you want a completely custom look or prefer to restore it back to its original condition, we can help. We love when restorations get a completely new look. There's nothing better than restoring a vehicle and giving it new life through a new look. This Jeep Wrangler came in white and looking a little worse for wear. We needed to do some rust repair, body work, a bedliner coating, some other minor issues, and of course, paint. Originally, the owners wanted to refinish the Jeep back to a clean white. When we mentioned we could paint it any color since we were already ...

Classic Car Collision Repair

At TD Customs, we know classic cars. We do full restorations on most of the classics that come into our shop, refinishing the entire body to its original condition. As a full service body shop, we also offer collision services on all kinds of vehicles. Most of our collision work is done on modern vehicles, but accidents happen to classic cars too. When it comes to your classic car, we recommend getting it repaired at a body shop that specializes in classic cars. The auto body techs at TD Customs work on classic cars day in and day out.  There is definitely more work that goes into making the body of an older car straight than there is for ...

TD Customs is Expanding!

No, you are not seeing double. TD Customs has just doubled our shop space! We've been outgrowing our current shop for awhile now. It has been getting harder and harder to move around the different cars we're working on at a given time. We are extremely fortunate in that demand is up, but with just the one bay, we've been having to schedule customers further out than we'd like. Now we've got the space to accommodate more vehicles and get jobs on the schedule much sooner than before. We also ran into the issue of having so many vehicles in one area being in different stages of the job. We consistently do classic restorations that tend to ...

#NoMoreYellow – ’64 Mustang Full Paint Job

The latest full paint job here at TD Customs has been this 1964 Ford Mustang. It came in a bright yellow color, and the owner knew she didn't want to keep the color. The first order of business on this classic car was to strip the paint. We used a chemical paint stripping process to completely bring the car down the bare metal. Follow the link to learn more about the chemical stripping process done on this '64 Mustang! After the car has been brought down to bare metal, we can then get a good look at the car. We can see how the shape of the body is, and any imperfections that need to be repaired. We note these issues and repair them ...

Hello old friend! ’63 Studebaker back for Paint!

Oh hello, 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Nice to have you back for the rest of your paint job! Awhile back we had this 1963 Studebaker Avanti in the shop for engine bay and door jamb repainting. The owner wanted us to get all the inner jambs and the engine painted, and then take it to get a motor put in, and then bring it back for the exterior paint job. We don't usually do paint jobs in stages like this. However, if it works for a customer in terms of budget or their preferences, we are happy to do so. In this case, the owner specifically wanted the engine bay painted before the new motor was put in. We understand this logic. Putting in a new ...

’64 Ford Galaxie Progress Report

We've got a 1964 Ford Galaxie in the building! As usual, we had Top Notch Towing, our preferred towing company, take care of the tow to our shop. The Galaxie is currently in the original red color, as you can see in the pictures, and will be painted back to its factory-original color from 1964, called Rangoon Red. The owners of this car actually live in Florida and frequently visit the WNC area often. They plan on making the car a family heirloom. We are always excited to be a part of a special family project like this. The first order of business in any restoration is to disassemble the car. We take the doors, hood, and truck lid ...

Chemical Paint Stripping for Bare Metal Restorations

There are several ways to remove paint from a vehicle. Come of the best ways include sand blasting, water blasting, and chemical stripping. All of these methods will completely strip the vehicle of paint, primer, and any old body work that is hidden underneath, leaving just the metal body of the car. This is what we mean when we say we are 'taking a car down to bare metal.' The point of removing everything and bringing it down to bare metal is so we can get a clear picture of what is needed. When it's bare metal, we'll see all the waves, dents and imperfections that we will need to address. If we don't take the car down to bare metal, the old ...

1970 Plymouth Barracuda Restoration

We've got a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in the house! The '70 Cuda is a pretty rare car that has been brought to us for a full body restoration. Top Notch Towing took care of the tow, and brought us the Cuda already on an automotive rotisserie. Having the car on a rotisserie is a perk, as it makes the refinishing process a little easier. We don't have to bend down or stretch to reach certain areas, and no laying on the ground. Not all cars need to be stripped down completely or will require this much attention to every inch. Before we got started with any of the body work, we needed to strip all of the paint off the car. Since this is a ...
