Lumilor Labs’ Training: A Recap

Tim at Lumilor Labs

Tim at Lumilor Labs

TD Customs just recently got back from the Lumilor Labs’ training center in Las Vegas, where Tim took part in a 10-day training course on the new electroluminescent paint application process. The paint is called Lumilor, and it literally lets you paint anything into a real, illuminated light with an electrical charge.

The Lumilor paint is made up of a complex system of coating applications. There was a lot of material to cover in the class; everything from applying the electroluminescent coating system to wiring it to an electric current to finally, making the final product look clean and flawless. In applying the Lumilor coating system, there are a lot of things to look out for. We need to make sure the conductive layers work together to create the illumination we are looking for, make sure the coats go on evenly, no debris is getting caught in the paint, etc.

There was a lot of practice involved, which was helpful. Tim got to paint several test panels, speed plates and even a couple picture frames with Lumilor. They also experimented with the different Lumilor colors; white, blue, aqua, green, and orange. Practicing on a few test panels while at Lumilor Labs was good because the teachers were there helping every step of the way.

The teachers in the class are experienced, professional painters that have been involved with the Lumilor paint product since the very beginning. Not only are they experts in the field and on the product, they are great people that we enjoyed getting to know and hope to stay in contact with.

We can’t say enough about how great it was being involved in the Lumilor Labs’ training course. Tim loved every minute of it. It was a lot of fun, and totally inspiring to think about all the possibilities there are with this paint! This technology is completely different from anything else out there, so it is great getting to be a part of it all.

Lumilor Labs is located in Las Vegas, so we had a ways to go for the training. Although, no one is complaining about having to take a trip to Vegas here! We got lucky and were able to attend the SEMA Show while we were out there as well. Now we are home in North Carolina, and getting back into the swing of things. We’ve got a car getting painted with glitter metal flake (pretty cool, look for those pics!), another full paint job on a truck, and a couple quick body repairs lined up for the next week or so.

Our first Lumilor paint job will most likely be Tim’s El Camino, so stay tuned to see the progress on that! Since we’re now a Certified Lumilor Lab, we can’t wait to get started with this product. Have questions about this electroluminescent paint? See our Lumilor FAQ page. We are also taking requests for Lumilor paint jobs. If you are interested in getting a Lumilor paint job, fill out the Get Lit Request form. For all other inquires or to discuss your project, feel free to contact us!
