Truck Restoration Update: Land Rover Defender, Part 2
We're making fast progress on the Land Rover Defender truck restoration!
The body of the truck is in primer and has been completely wet sanded. All of the doors and the hood have been painted, so next up is painting the whole body. It will get painted tonight, so the paint can dry over the weekend.
Next week, we are going to be putting it all back together. Assembly on the Defender is going to take a little longer than most truck restorations because there are so many different components. There is a roll cage, a soft top cover, new front and back seats, and lots of small pieces we took off to restore and paint.
The exterior paint is ...
Classic Restoration: ’79 Corvette
We've got a couple classic restorations going on at TD Customs, including this 1979 L82 Chevy Corvette.
This classic restoration started out bright green in color, affectionately known as "bugger green" by its owners, and just needed an updated look. The new paint color is going to be a custom mixed steel grey with blue undertones. It is going to look great!
There were some body flaws, but after some sanding, fiberglass repairs and bondo work to fix the minor dents, it is going to be smooth and flawless. Tim is always bending down to look at the lines of the car to make sure there are no small waves, pin pricks or anything that needs to be ...
Freightliner ready for paint
The auto body work is all done on the big rig. The Freightliner tractor trailer is now all sanded, masked off, prepped and ready for paint! This was definitely a quick job; in on Wednesday, painted by Friday, and the customer will be able to pick it up on Monday.
This was a full paint job with some minor auto body work, specifically fiberglass repairs to a couple holes on the cab. With over a million miles on this big rig, it deserved some TLC in the ways of minor repairs and fresh paint to keep it looking brand new again.
For obvious height reasons, this paint job is going to be done outside like you see pictured rather than inside in the ...
Big rig: Paint and body work repairs, Turnaround time: 1 Week
We don't necessarily go out of our way to get these huge trucks in the shop (mainly because they don't fit all the way in), but these big rigs seem to be finding us these days!
We have another Freightliner tractor trailer with a large sleeper cab in for some body work repairs and then an all-white paint job. It sure is a big paint job. Today is sanding, masking and dismantling day.
And because we always love a challenge and making sure our customers are getting taken care of, and leave 100% happy, Tim is going to get this job done in less than a week! I'm telling you, turnaround time for this place is QUICK.
Check back next week for the ...
Fiberglass repairs on the big rig
This is probably the biggest rig to come into the shop! And with the exhaust stacks, it doesn't even fit all the way inside.
This Freightliner tractor trailer is in for some fiberglass repair work for some small cracks and holes in the body, and then painted back to original color.
It belongs to a customer we have done a classic car restoration for in the past, and she continues to bring us all of her vehicles for any body work that is needed. We don't typically work on trucks this big, but when it comes to special requests, if Tim can do it, he will.
Luckily, most of the work is in the front end, because that is all that will fit through the ...
