TD Customs on WLOS Morning News!

TD Customs got some attention on Asheville's WLOS News station Tuesday morning! It was great getting to talk about our custom paint services, including the new electroluminescent paint, Lumilor, featured on our TD Customs motorcycle. WLOS reporter, Lauren Brigman, came to the shop to check out the TD Customs motorcycle with its light up paint job, and we got to do four different live clips talking about the bike. They did the first interview at 5am, then 5:30, 6, and 6:30am. Having several live interviews over the course of the morning turned out to be really great because they were able to show the paint in different shades of light. ...

Lumilor Lit Motorcycle in Action

Electroluminescent paint turns your motorcycle into a light bulb that you can turn on and off with a switch. We wire the paint job directly to the motorcycle, which allows you to easily control when you want it to be lit. It'll increase your visibility out there on the roads, and turn heads with how cool it looks at night and in the evenings. Check out this quick video of the Lumilor lit motorcycle out at night. We definitely get a ton of attention when we take the bike out at night. Having a paint job that lights up is something so new that it turns a lot of heads, and has everyone asking questions about it and wanting to look closer. ...

Motorcycle Safety: Increasing Visibility

The most important aspect of motorcycle safety is visibility. Motorcyclists need to be visible while out on the road. So many accidents happen because of other drivers not being able to see the motorcycles that share the road with them. Motorcycles are at a slight disadvantage because they are smaller than the average car and aren't easily noticed. Drivers tend to look out for other cars and trucks on the road, but fail to notice the motorcycles that might right near them. The more visible bike riders are, the safer they will be. Motorcycle Safety Tips Here are a few tips on how to increase visibility and stay safe while riding... Get a ...

The MGB is yellow no more

The 1973 MGB Roadster has been painted! Originally a bright yellow, the car got restored and painted a fresh blue/ teal color. This restoration didn't take as long as most because there wasn't as much body work as we typically find. The car also came partially disassembled, so we didn't have to take care of the small parts, like the door handles, lights, grill, etc. And the car is very tiny! Here is the Before... There was a lot of sanding to be done with this one. Don't let the size of the car fool you; there's still a lot of surface area that had to be completely sanded down. It was all hands on deck as we spent a few days sanding on ...

Skoal Bandit Motorcycle Paint Job

The Skoal Bandit motorcycle has a pretty distinct look to it, including specific decals and colors that make it what it is. These bikes are fairly recognizable, and specifically well known for their coloring and decals. The picture below is of another Skoal Bandit motorcycle that we used as a design guide, along with a few others we found online. This is the look of a typical Skoal Bandit motorcycle. The motorcycle was being painted for Lance Gamma, a motorcycle shop that specializes in building these custom Gamma crotch rockets. The owner brought in the motorcycle parts to be painted, as well as some other parts to use as a design guide. For ...

Electroluminescent Painted Guitar

Electroluminescent painted guitars are THE hottest thing to hit music venues and backyard campfires! Think about it; a dark venue, a Lumilor lit guitar. What could be more awesome? Lumilor is an Electroluminescent Coating System that allows us to spray paint pretty much any surface into a light without changing the object at all. The electroluminescent paint will become a part of the guitar. The wiring and a simple on/off switch allow us to control when the guitar lights up and turns off. We wire the paint straight to an electric current, and all you can see is a clean, illumination. This guitar was painted to be fully lit. The light up paint ...

Lumilor: A new artistic medium

Lumilor is a new artistic medium. There are many possibilities for how electroluminescent paint can be used in the artistic world. With a paint product that can now produce light, artists are opened up to many more design options and capabilities. Not only for lighting up cars and motorcycles, Lumilor can be used for a number of different applications. This project involves creating a simple electroluminescent painted panel for a local Asheville artist who will experiment with different top coat paints herself. Lumilor is a multi-layer coating system that is always sprayed as the base. From there, we paint additional colors and designs, or ...

Video: How Lexus brought the RC F to life with Lumilor

Lexus Australia wanted to show people how thrilling it is to drive the new Lexus RC F. To do this, they painted the car with electroluminescent paint panels down the sides and wired the panels to a heart rate monitor on the driver. Next, they created an intense race track with sharp hairpin turns and had professional drivers race at night. The Lumilor lit panels light up in conjunction with the driver's heart rate monitor. As the driver's heart beats per minute increase, the panels on the Lexus flash faster. Lexus definitely achieved what they set out to do by showing how exciting it is to drive their car. The video itself is exciting! Watch ...

Back to Factory Original Paint Colors

Factory original paint colors tend to bring back a sense of nostalgia for the good old days. Many older vehicles or specific motorcycles are easily recognizable because of their distinct paint job. We tend to see factory original paint be of importance to those driving old trucks, as well as motorcycles. Many older farm trucks have the two-toned design, and are very recognizable with their specific colors. Owners like the appeal of driving a truck that looks just as it did back in the day, but is also new enough that the color shines and the body lines of the truck are perfect. Many of these older trucks that come in for restorations and new ...
