Progress: ’82 F-150 Restoration

The '82 Ford F-150 truck restoration is in full swing. This is a factory original restoration, so it'll be getting refinished and painted back to the original blue and white paint scheme. 1982 F-150 Factory Original Restoration Let's start with the Before picture... There is quite a bit of rust, so we're repairing it all, as well as refinishing the entire truck. We're also applying an anti-rust undercoat to the chassis. The cab has been repaired in certain areas, and is now in primer. The chassis has also been given a thick coat of the powerful, anti-rust application, POR-15. Once surface rust has been removed, we can apply this ...

’66 Ford Mustang Restoration Complete

The '66 Mustang restoration is ready for delivery! This classic car needed a little face lift, and got refinished back to it's factory original state. The paint color is a Seaspray blue, which is the Mustang's original color. Here is the '66 Mustang when it first came in. The doors, front bumper, and a couple other parts needed to be replaced. Other areas, such as the hood and trunk, needed to be restored. We typically choose the most cost effective option when determining whether to repair or replace a given part. There were some other random imperfections to address and minor trim accessories that needed to be replaced. After the body ...

The Light Up Motorcycle at Myrtle Beach Bike Week

Myrtle Beach Bike Week was a blast! TD Customs was there with our light up motorcycle to show the town what Lumilor is all about. Myrtle Beach Bike Week: Fall 2016 Myrtle Beach Bike Week is a fun time to bring your bike and hit the town with others who share the same passion. There is a great community of motorcyclists in town during the two bike weeks they have. Plenty of bars welcome bikers and have bands throughout the night. During the day, there are also bands and vendors set up at certain bars and the Harley-Davidson of Myrtle Beach. Murrell's Inlet has a bunch of biker bars. These bars are great because they're spaced out so you can pull ...

Custom painted helmets

Custom painted helmets Don't just wear any plain black helmet you picked up at the store. Let your helmet be another accessory for your bike rides. Custom painted helmets let you take the design where you want to go. The blue/ purple/ orange helmet shows different paint design options. Here you can see some lace effect on the top, and some different fading and striping. Painting with lace is cool because there are lots of different fabrics of lace you can find. Each one is different, so you can choose the design you like best. How to Choose?! If you want a custom painted helmet, but don't know where to start, start by narrowing down the ...

Wheels getting a pop of color

We got some cool looking wheels in the shop for an updated look. These wheels and tires belong to a bright green colored Jeep. The customer wanted all of the silver accents to be painted bright green to match. These wheels are great for paint because there are so many tiny areas ready for that pop of color. Here is what the wheels looked like Before... In order to get all the silver areas green, we had to tape off everything but just these areas. The tape lines must be precise so that none of the paint gets where it's not supposed to. That'd really mess up the look. We did five wheels, including the spare, so it was a lot of masking...

1951 Chevy Truck Restoration

Look what we've got back in the shop! The beautiful 1951 Chevy truck we restored and painted in pieces a few years ago. This restoration was done a little differently than most because the owner wanted to put the truck back together himself. He would bring us a set of parts and as we completed them, he'd bring us another, until we finished every part down to the cab. Here is how we last saw the '51 Chevy truck... This truck is very sentimental for the owner. His late father bought the truck brand NEW back in 1951. In 2013, he brought the truck to us to restore and paint, but wanted to put the truck back together himself. He enjoys ...

Fixing rust before it spreads

Fixing rust that arises is an important part in the maintenance of your vehicles. This week we did some rust repair on an 1989 Lincoln Continental. It only needed minor rust repair on the passenger side back quarter panel. As you can see from the Before picture, there were some cracks underneath the vinyl top. These cracks are from the paint shipping due to rust underneath. Once you start to see the little cracks and bubbles in the paint, it's a good time to bring your car in to get the rust repaired. Rust spreads pretty easily, especially if the car is often exposed to water or moisture. Fixing rust before it spreads will save you money in ...

1968 Pontiac LeMans Restoration

The latest classic restoration to leave TD Customs was the 1968 Pontiac LeMans. When it came in, the car needed body work and a variety of other repairs. It was green, and getting refinished back to almost the same color, yet slightly darker. Here is what the Lemans looked like Before... The biggest part of every restoration is making sure the body of the car is as smooth and straight as possible. Specifically with this car, we also had to make sure to realign the panels with the correct gaps, which was an issue. Making sure all the panels, such as the doors and the hood and trunk, is very important. We make sure everything lines up ...

Relocating the gas tank in a ’66 Chevy

This 1966 Chevy C-10 Truck was a recent project that required putting in a new wood bed, and relocating the gas tank to the back of the bed. The original gas tank was located on the side of the truck, right behind the driver's seat. You can see the gas cap right behind the driver's side door handle. This isn't the safest place for a gas tank. So now, instead of filling the gas tank through the side of the truck, the owner will now fill it through a new hole in the bed of the truck. The tank is now accessible through a little pop up knob. You just push it down, twist, and it pops up and out. We bought a new gas tank that ...
