We support Small Business Saturday!
First, we hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We were able to spend some great quality time with our families, and hope you did too! We skipped out on Black Friday, may get in on some Cyber Monday, but really wanted to give a little shout out to the best shopping day... Small Business Saturday. [Man, is there any other weekend with so many days dedicated to shopping!?]
As a small business ourselves, we understand what goes in to building a business and working toward its growth. We started this business working out of the garage, and have since moved into a new building and grown a wonderfully loyal customer base. It hasn't always been easy,Â...
Happy 4 Years to TD Customs!
We can't believe it's been four years that TD Customs has been in business, and three years that we have been at this Mills River location. Time sure flies when you're having fun!
In 2011, Tim moved to North Carolina, and began working for himself shortly after. He worked out of his 6-car garage in Hendersonville for about a year, and then it didn't take long for him to build up a customer base and begin needing more space. From there, we found this shop in Mills River, installed a state of the art paint booth, upgraded a lot of things, and have been working away ever since.
It's been a fun ride. We've met some great people that have become ...
Now’s the time to get that motorcycle painted!
Now is the perfect time to get your motorcycle painted. Riding season has just about ended here in Western North Carolina, and although I still see some brave souls out there, it's basically too cold to go out riding. It seems like fall was over so quick! With highs in the 50's these days, I can't think of a better time to get your motorcycle painted.
We always see a huge influx of motorcycle paint jobs in the spring - just when riding season is starting, but let us know if you'd like to get that paint job done during these cold winter months!
What kinds of motorcycle paint jobs do we offer?
We have done many kinds of custom motorcycle ...
Yes, it’s the PAINT that lights up!
Paint that lights up with an electric charge is a completely new technology that most people are still seeing for the first time. Many people are initially in disbelief that such a product even exists.
We find ourselves answering people's questions with, "Yes, it's the paint that lights up!"
It's ok; when we first heard about Lumilor, we couldn't believe that there was an actual paint that lights up either, and we wanted to hear more too!
So yes, it is the actual paint that lights up. Not LEDS behind it, not some computerized screen. It is the paint itself that lights up with a real electric charge running through it.
Lumilor is a ...
Racing Extinction Car Draws Attention with Paint that Lights Up
A highly modified, technologically advanced car is being used to showcase the game-changing 'Racing Extinction' documentary on how climate change has impacted the state of our planet and how so many endangered species are facing mass extinction.
Directed by Academy Award Winner Louie Psihoyos, Racing Extinction warns that in 100 years, up to fifty percent of the world's species could be lost forever, and notes that five of the planet's major extinctions have all led to an increase in the Earth's carbon dioxide. The message behind the film is that we all have the power to make a change, and every small change will eventually add up to make a ...
Body repairs on cars involves a lot of prep work!
TD Customs does a lot of body repairs on cars that have just gotten into little fender bender accidents and need minor collision repair. There is a lot work involved in these jobs. Luckily, we have it down to a science at this point. Tim has years of auto body and paint experience. He will completely repair any body damage so that you'd never be able to tell there was an accident in the first place.
Sometimes people are surprised by how much is involved in doing even minor body repairs on cars. There are a lot of steps involved, including the much needed prep work. When you watch the car remodel shows on TV, like Overhaulin' or Fast N Loud, ...
SEMA. Basically, Disneyland for Car Enthusiasts
The SEMA Show is a HUGE annual automotive trade show that we were very excited to attend. Anyone who's anyone in the automotive world goes to SEMA to showcase their products and latest builds. It's not open to the public, so you have to be in the industry to attend. People come from all over the world for this show. Even before we ever realistically thought about going, Tim has said he's wanted to go. Coincidentally, we were going to be in Las Vegas for Lumilor training around the time of the show, so we made sure to get tickets.
There is so much to see at the SEMA Show. It's massive. There are four huge buildings with exhibitor booths, and a ...
Lumilor Labs’ Training: A Recap
TD Customs just recently got back from the Lumilor Labs' training center in Las Vegas, where Tim took part in a 10-day training course on the new electroluminescent paint application process. The paint is called Lumilor, and it literally lets you paint anything into a real, illuminated light with an electrical charge.
The Lumilor paint is made up of a complex system of coating applications. There was a lot of material to cover in the class; everything from applying the electroluminescent coating system to wiring it to an electric current to finally, making the final product look clean and flawless. In applying the Lumilor coating system, there ...
The body shop gets a spruce
Every once in a while, it's time for a little spruce. We've slowly been making changes and cleaning up the shop, but this week we decided to redecorate the front office area of our body shop to make it more fun and inviting. One of the real motivators was that we got so much promotional stuff at the SEMA Show that we needed a place to show it all off. We got a lot of cool posters (quite a few signed!) and pictures, so we knew we wanted to completely redecorate the front office of the shop.
The Before...
We've been meaning to paint the front room for some time now, but have just been too busy. It's easy to just stay focused on the ...
Whirlwind Vegas trip!
We are home after a couple great weeks in Las Vegas. It was a long trip, but so worth it! Being in Vegas was lots of fun. We gambled a little bit, ate some great meals, and did all the touristy things, like watch the Bellagio fountains, checked out Counts' Kustoms, and even made it to the Hoover Dam. It was a business trip though, with Tim there for Lumilor training and us attending the SEMA Show.
Primarily and most importantly, we were there for Lumilor training, which could not have gone better. Tim LOVED the class and really enjoyed learning this new technology. What's not to like? This stuff is so cool! He got to practice on quite a ...
