TD Customs’ 2019 Calendar!

It's that time of year for a wrap up of our coolest paint jobs, restorations, or jobs from the previous year. We've been busy and are fortunate to have a lot to choose from! For January we have the 1931 Chevy Cabriolet that we did body work on and painted in parts. When this one left our shop, it was in pieces The owner had done a lot of work on the case, and wanted to assemble it himself. He also added a black vinyl top that compliments it really well. This classic car is a beauty! Read more about the '31 Chevy Cabriolet. In February, we're looking at the impressive Polaris Slingshot. The owner of the Slingshot came to us from over 3 ...

Two Tone SUV Paint Job

You don't see two toned SUV paint jobs everywhere. That's why they're so cool. They look custom, while still looking classy and fairly simple. This SUV is an older model Chevy Trailblazer. It was originally all blue, and nothing out of the ordinary. For this two tone SUV paint job, we kept the blue on the bottom and painted the top silver. Painting just the top or bottom part of a vehicle is a good way to change up the look of your vehicle on a budget. Keeping one color the same lets us not have to paint the inners & door jambs. This means a lot less work on our part because we aren't taking the doors, hood and trunk lid off the vehicl...

Paint & Body on a Classic ’71 Camaro

A 1971 Chevy Camaro was just in for a restoration and paint job. When it came in, it was white and needed some attention. There was some rust, as well as body damage that needed to be corrected. Here is what the Camaro looked like Before... Taking care of the rust and body damage takes up a good portion of the restoration process. The length of time and amount of work needed depends on the condition. Some imperfections are easier to correct than others. When the body work is all done, we prime the car and get it prepped for paint. The first thing we always paint is the inner panels and door jambs. We paint these pieces off the car, and ...

Body Work & Full Paint: ’68 Plymouth Satellite

The '68 Plymouth Satellite classic restoration we just wrapped up needed overall body work and fresh, factory original paint. The body was in moderate condition, but we had to repair a lot of rust. This entails grinding out existing rust, cutting it out, and replacing the old steel with new steel. From there, it gets smoothed over and fitted perfectly into place. We also spent a good amount of time sanding the exterior body to get the panels straight. The paint color is the original paint from 1968; a deep green color that looks almost black in the shade. It's called Dark Forest Green Metallic. Rechromed Bumpers The bumpers were a bit ...

2018 Mountain Motor Show featuring TD Customs’ Lumilor

Saturday was the 3rd annual Mountain Motor Show at the WNC Ag Center in South Asheville. We've been going since it started, and it's always been a good time. TD Customs is located in Mills River, right down the road from the Ag Center, so we always like to go to the car shows in our neighborhood. The Mountain Motor Show is a big car show that shows off cars, trucks and motorcycles in different categories. They range from Best Classic to Best Hot Rod, among others. Cars are displayed both inside and outside. Saturday was a beautiful, sunny day, so it was perfect to show off all the cars under the sun, as well as under the indoor bright lights....

’64 Ford Galaxie Full Classic Restoration

The 1964 Ford Galaxie full restoration is complete, and looks amazing. We did a lot of rust repair and body work to the entire car, and replaced a quarter panel. We got the bumpers rechromed so they look shiny and new again, had the upholstery completely redone, and of course, repainted it back to it's factory red color. The last time you saw the Galaxie, it had just been stripped down to bare metal and put in its first stage of primer. Read about the Galaxie's first stages in this '64 Ford Galaxie Progress Report. We've done a lot of metal and body work since then. Just when every panel was straight, we moved the classic car on to the paint ...

TD Customs’ 2018 Calendar

Every year we put together a calendar of our best and most favorite restorations and paint jobs we've done that year. It typically includes our bigger restorations and custom paint jobs. This year we had a lot of pictures of our work to choose from. Take a look at this year's calendar... ~ January ~ This white 1987 Chevy Silverado came in with worn paint and rust damage, needing a full paint job. We replaced cab corners, repaired all the rust and body damage, and replaced all the glass. We also cleaned and undercoated the frame to keep rust from returning, and of course, gave it a fresh factory-original paint job back to white. Click Here to ...

Little Red Corvette Restoration & Paint Job

This cool classic car just makes you want to sing Prince's song, "Little red Corvette" - especially after seeing the After photo. This 1980 Chevy Corvette came in needing some body work and a fresh paint job. We did away with the bottom side skirts you see in these Before pictures. Instead, we fitted the car with an earlier C3 Corvette rocker panel in a satin black finish. We also replaced the fiberglass front and back bumpers. The first order of business was to start working on the areas that needed body work. This includes any waves, dents or imperfections in the body of the car. As you can see in these pictures, Erick is block sanding ...

Hello old friend! ’63 Studebaker back for Paint!

Oh hello, 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Nice to have you back for the rest of your paint job! Awhile back we had this 1963 Studebaker Avanti in the shop for engine bay and door jamb repainting. The owner wanted us to get all the inner jambs and the engine painted, and then take it to get a motor put in, and then bring it back for the exterior paint job. We don't usually do paint jobs in stages like this. However, if it works for a customer in terms of budget or their preferences, we are happy to do so. In this case, the owner specifically wanted the engine bay painted before the new motor was put in. We understand this logic. Putting in a new ...

2008 Toyota Camry Makeover

It's amazing how a new body kit and a custom paint job will transform your once-average car! I was extra, extra excited to get this job in the shop because, as some of you may know, it is MY car! This 2008 Toyota Camry started out with a stock light green paint color. Let's just say it did not represent how cool I really am... Just kidding, but it did need an updated look. Here is what the ol' lady looked like before... There was some body work to start with. I may have dinged up a few areas on the car over the years (hey, it happens!), which we still needed to fix. With the new body kit, we replaced both the front and back ...
