Relocating the gas tank in a ’66 Chevy

gas tank relocated to bed of truck
This 1966 Chevy C-10 Truck was a recent project that required putting in a new wood bed, and relocating the gas tank to the back of the bed. The original gas tank was located on the side of the truck, right behind the driver's seat. You can see the gas cap right behind the driver's side door handle. This isn't the safest place for a gas tank. So now, instead of filling the gas tank through the side of the truck, the owner will now fill it through a new hole in the bed of the truck. The tank is now accessible through a little pop up knob. You just push it ...

Getting a perfect color match

Matching and blending paint to bordering panels can sometimes be tricky, but it's an essential part in touching up small areas that need attention without having to repaint the entire car. This week we got a 1968 Camaro SS in that just needed a door repainted. The owner recently had another body shop in our area repair and paint the door, but the color match was not right. As you can see in the picture, the door is a darker color than the rest of the car. They didn't want to bring it back to the other shop, so they brought it to us. The paint code from the ...

Next Day Collision Repairs

dent repair asheville body shop
Many collision repair jobs can be done with a one or two day turnaround. Since these jobs take much less time to repair than our typical restoration work, we are able to schedule them so that we can get to it right away and return it back to you as soon as possible. Why leave your car for a couple weeks? We don't believe that you should have to leave your car at the body shop for a couple weeks in order to get some minor damage repaired. When you do that, we suspect the car is likely out in the parking lot for half of that time, while in many cases,  you could still be ...

Motorcycle Safety: Increasing Visibility

td customs custom motorcycle paint
The most important aspect of motorcycle safety is visibility. Motorcyclists need to be visible while out on the road. So many accidents happen because of other drivers not being able to see the motorcycles that share the road with them. Motorcycles are at a slight disadvantage because they are smaller than the average car and aren't easily noticed. Drivers tend to look out for other cars and trucks on the road, but fail to notice the motorcycles that might right near them. The more visible bike riders are, the safer they will be. Motorcycle Safety Tips Here are a ...

Rust repair: Patching in new panels

Asheville rust repair auto restoration
Rust repair is a necessary component to most restorations we do since many of them are on old classic cars that have been around for awhile. Rust repair is always easiest when caught early. However, we have repaired extensive rust damage on quite a few cars. When there is a good amount of rust, we generally cut out the affected areas, and replace them with new panels. We'll also spread on a coat of POR-15, an anti-rust paint product that keeps it from coming back again. We recently worked on a truck restoration that needed a lot of rust repair to the cab of the truck, so ...

The MGB is yellow no more

mgb classic restoration Asheville NC
The 1973 MGB Roadster has been painted! Originally a bright yellow, the car got restored and painted a fresh blue/ teal color. This restoration didn't take as long as most because there wasn't as much body work as we typically find. The car also came partially disassembled, so we didn't have to take care of the small parts, like the door handles, lights, grill, etc. And the car is very tiny! Here is the Before... There was a lot of sanding to be done with this one. Don't let the size of the car fool you; there's still a lot of surface area that had to be ...

Yellow MGB Roadster Going Green

classic restoration 73 mgb
Good things come in small packages, especially when we're talking about the classic MGB. This 1973 MGB Roadster is one of the next restorations we are working on. The MGB is starting out yellow and going to be painted a dark teal/ green color. It's always a little more fun to see a car go from one color to something completely different. This car is so little that it probably won't take long to complete. We've started sanding it down and getting it ready for body work. We will be manually block sanding the entire car, making sure to hit every inch so that ...

Back to Factory Original Paint Colors

pickup truck paint job TD Customs
Factory original paint colors tend to bring back a sense of nostalgia for the good old days. Many older vehicles or specific motorcycles are easily recognizable because of their distinct paint job. We tend to see factory original paint be of importance to those driving old trucks, as well as motorcycles. Many older farm trucks have the two-toned design, and are very recognizable with their specific colors. Owners like the appeal of driving a truck that looks just as it did back in the day, but is also new enough that the color shines and the body lines of the truck are ...
