Full restoration: ’82 F-150 pickup
The 1982 Ford F-150 pickup truck is one of our latest restorations that we’ve been working on. This one has been in the works for a few months now, needing more attention than some of the others.
The last time we saw the F-150 on the blog was here, and the bed and the cab were being worked on separately. After that, we painted the cab and the front side of the bed (the part that sits up against the cab).
Once these were painted, we put the bed back on the chassis to make it a complete truck again. This makes it easier to paint the entire exterior. Especially with two toned paint jobs, it’s better to have everything in place before laying down paint lines. We wouldn’t want to put it back together later and realize it was off even a little bit.
This restoration took a lot of hours of body work. Specifically, the bed on this truck gave us some issues. There was rust to take care of, and there were waves all throughout. Therefore, it took quite a bit of metal fabrication and body work to get the lines perfectly straight. Tim is a perfectionist and makes sure the outside body of the truck is smooth and flawless for paint.
The end product is a freshly painted Ford F-150 that looks close to how it did leaving the factory, but with some personal touches. The body is straight. You are able to look at the truck from all different angles and see only straight lines.
We also painted parts of the motor as a surprise for the owner. The blue is another nice touch that gives it that pop of color where there wasn’t any before.
For flawless body work that is done the right way, TD Customs is the place to go. While other body shops may be good at parts replacing, we specialize in classic restorations and intensive auto body repairs.
The final touch on this F-150 is the dark blue 1/8″ pinstripe line separating the blue and silver two-toned paint scheme. It’s a nice, subtle touch! Another custom touch is the silver painted Ford lettering on the tailgate. These are the little details that make your car or truck all your own.
This was a great restoration. It was a lot of work, but we are very happy with the outcome. It looks great, and the owner is very happy.
Here is the fully restored, freshly painted Ford F-150 as it was leaving. If you look close enough, you’ll see that it was actually starting to snow when the owner came to get it.
The silver/grey details really pop on the blue on this truck!

Any idea where this truck is now? I’d love to have it.
