Getting a perfect color match
Matching and blending paint to bordering panels can sometimes be tricky, but it's an essential part in touching up small areas that need attention without having to repaint the entire car.
This week we got a 1968 Camaro SS in that just needed a door repainted. The owner recently had another body shop in our area repair and paint the door, but the color match was not right. As you can see in the picture, the door is a darker color than the rest of the car. They didn't want to bring it back to the other shop, so they brought it to us.
The paint code from the car's VIN didn't pull up an exact match, so Tim had to bring the car to our ...
Mountaineer Antique Car Show
The Mountaineer Antique Auto Club Car Show was this past Friday and Saturday at the WNC Ag Center. They had lots of classics and modified cars out in the front grass area, a swap meet of different car parts, and the car corral in the back building, which is where we were. The car corral included some of the most impressive cars; some of which were for sale, others just on display. I must say, it was the best spot to be since it was so hot out this weekend and the building had A/C!
TD Customs was set up in the car corral area, displaying the TD Customs El Camino and the Lumilor lit motorcycle. We asked for a back corner of the indoor area so we ...
Trans Am in primer. Next up; prep & paint!
We're making lots of progress on the Trans Am restoration, and it'll be ready for paint in the next week. Once we really got into the body work on this car, we realized there was more body damage than we originally thought. Sometimes the car just takes a little more work to get it perfectly straight. A paint job won't look good if the body work is not done right. Once a car is painted, it's easy to see all the little waves and imperfections, so this is really the most crucial part of the restoration and the part that takes the longest to do.
Our shop has been busier than ever lately. We've taken a little longer on this restoration than we had ...
Trans Am Restoration Update
We've been diving into the Trans Am restoration this week, getting the whole car stripped down to bare metal and doing body work on the areas that need it.
We had stripped the paint off with a paint stripper compound to get most of it off. Then, we took each individual part and sanded it down to bare metal and started doing the repairs. Some parts needed metal work done, while others needed body work, and some both. The job is to get the car as straight as possible, removing any dents and dings and waves in the body.
There was some metal work to be done on the end quarter panels. Rust holes were patched up with new metal and body work was ...
The MGB is yellow no more
The 1973 MGB Roadster has been painted! Originally a bright yellow, the car got restored and painted a fresh blue/ teal color.
This restoration didn't take as long as most because there wasn't as much body work as we typically find. The car also came partially disassembled, so we didn't have to take care of the small parts, like the door handles, lights, grill, etc. And the car is very tiny! Here is the Before...
There was a lot of sanding to be done with this one. Don't let the size of the car fool you; there's still a lot of surface area that had to be completely sanded down. It was all hands on deck as we spent a few days sanding on ...
Yellow MGB Roadster Going Green
Good things come in small packages, especially when we're talking about the classic MGB. This 1973 MGB Roadster is one of the next restorations we are working on. The MGB is starting out yellow and going to be painted a dark teal/ green color. It's always a little more fun to see a car go from one color to something completely different.
This car is so little that it probably won't take long to complete. We've started sanding it down and getting it ready for body work. We will be manually block sanding the entire car, making sure to hit every inch so that the paint will go on nice and smooth so that no speck of yellow will be left on ...
Next Restoration: 1970 Trans Am
We are definitely keeping very busy with restoration work lately. After finishing up the F100 restoration, we are diving right into this 1970 Trans Am. It will be getting the full restoration treatment and a beautiful (blue!) paint job.
Here is the Before...
This car is going from the maroon/ burgundy color you see here to the factory original blue it used to come in back in 1970. Here is a picture of what the Trans Am is going to look like when we are done. It's great when customers can bring in pictures and specific colors to show us exactly how they want their car to look. This car is going to look great in blue, especially with the ...
Wood truck bed
We just love the look of wood in a classic truck bed! It looks so classy and gives the truck a little something extra. This truck bed is from the 1967 Ford F-100 restoration we recently did. The color in the wood goes perfectly with the Holly Green paint the truck was painted.
Many of the truck restorations we've done involve painting the truck bed the same color as the rest of truck. Our latest truck restoration was one of the few we've done that went with a classic wood bed instead. In between the wood boards are nice chrome dividers that also add to its visual appeal. Even the bolts are chrome to embellish the look a bit more. You can even ...
Completed Restoration: 1967 F-100
The 1967 Ford F-100 full restoration is now complete! This classic truck restoration has been an extensive restoration project for a few months now. Many restorations don't involve a complete disassembly where we take the cab and bed off the chassis, like we did here. For this one, we took the entire truck apart to repair every part and panel, and assembled it all back together.
The truck originally belonged to the owner's grandfather. So, for sentimental reasons, he wanted to keep the cab of the truck. We definitely understand this way of thinking. We feel the same way about our cars, especially those that we remember driving 'back in ...
Mountain Motor Show 4.2.16
We stopped by the Mountain Motor Show this weekend at the WNC Agricultural Center, and got to see some great builds! They had an indoor and outdoor section that held vendors and their booths, as well as those who registered their car to be included. Space was limited, so they only selected the top entries.
And look what we ran into - one of our customers' restorations at the car show! A lot of our customers enjoy our local Asheville car shows and bring their cars out for others to see whenever they can.
It's great to run into these cars that we put so much time into. We get to see how beautiful they look next to all the other flawless ...
