Little Red Corvette: A Race Car

One of the latest paint jobs we've been working on is this 1981 Chevy Corvette. With its huge rear tires, roll cage, and now a bright red paint job, this race car is definitely an eye grabber! The car came to us in primer. The owner had done some of the body work on his own, and painted the door jambs. He did a great job getting the body work started. We just needed to fix a few cracks in the fiberglass and finish up the minor body waves down the panels, and, of course, get it painted. Here is the Before picture.. The paint color is Brilliant Red Metallic. For this race car paint job, the customer actually brought us the paint. It ...

Lumilor Lit Motorcycle in Action

Electroluminescent paint turns your motorcycle into a light bulb that you can turn on and off with a switch. We wire the paint job directly to the motorcycle, which allows you to easily control when you want it to be lit. It'll increase your visibility out there on the roads, and turn heads with how cool it looks at night and in the evenings. Check out this quick video of the Lumilor lit motorcycle out at night. We definitely get a ton of attention when we take the bike out at night. Having a paint job that lights up is something so new that it turns a lot of heads, and has everyone asking questions about it and wanting to look closer. ...

Electroluminescent Painted Guitar

Electroluminescent painted guitars are THE hottest thing to hit music venues and backyard campfires! Think about it; a dark venue, a Lumilor lit guitar. What could be more awesome? Lumilor is an Electroluminescent Coating System that allows us to spray paint pretty much any surface into a light without changing the object at all. The electroluminescent paint will become a part of the guitar. The wiring and a simple on/off switch allow us to control when the guitar lights up and turns off. We wire the paint straight to an electric current, and all you can see is a clean, illumination. This guitar was painted to be fully lit. The light up paint ...

Lumilor: A new artistic medium

Lumilor is a new artistic medium. There are many possibilities for how electroluminescent paint can be used in the artistic world. With a paint product that can now produce light, artists are opened up to many more design options and capabilities. Not only for lighting up cars and motorcycles, Lumilor can be used for a number of different applications. This project involves creating a simple electroluminescent painted panel for a local Asheville artist who will experiment with different top coat paints herself. Lumilor is a multi-layer coating system that is always sprayed as the base. From there, we paint additional colors and designs, or ...

Lumilor Day!

If you follow us on Facebook, you got the first look at our recent Lumilor day. If you missed it, don't worry, you can catch all the details right here! But be sure to Like us on Facebook! so it doesn't happen again... ;) Yesterday we had a designated Lumilor day where we focused solely on a few light up paint jobs. We’ve got three projects we’re working on; a fully lit helmet, a simple flat panel, and a guitar. Each of these projects were lit in the aqua LumiColor. The guitar will be getting a top coat paint job with some music note accents, while the flat panel is going to be used for a local artist who wants to experiment with her own ...

Video: How Lexus brought the RC F to life with Lumilor

Lexus Australia wanted to show people how thrilling it is to drive the new Lexus RC F. To do this, they painted the car with electroluminescent paint panels down the sides and wired the panels to a heart rate monitor on the driver. Next, they created an intense race track with sharp hairpin turns and had professional drivers race at night. The Lumilor lit panels light up in conjunction with the driver's heart rate monitor. As the driver's heart beats per minute increase, the panels on the Lexus flash faster. Lexus definitely achieved what they set out to do by showing how exciting it is to drive their car. The video itself is exciting! Watch ...

Meet our shop buddy, Rod Knock

It all started with a rod knock. "Hey, do you hear that?" I say no. I rarely ever hear what he is referring to. Tim has some sort of sixth sense for how his car is feeling at all times. But apparently, there was a rod knocking in the engine. Not good. After that, it started to overheat and have a bunch of other issues. The El Camino overhaul has been a dream for awhile now. It already has a sweet custom paint job on it (black with red ghost flames), but we want to kick the paint job up a notch with some new colors and of course, Lumilor! Now that we're a Certified Lumilor Lab, we are going to make the El Camino an eye-catchingly awesome ...

Lumilor Featured on Science Channel’s ‘Outrageous Acts of Science’

The illuminating paint, Lumilor, was featured on the Science Channel this weekend! The show, Outrageous Acts of Science, did a countdown of several top extraordinary inventions that utilize science in the most amazing ways. Which brings us to our favorite invention, Electroluminescent Paint! Developed in Ohio by Darkside Scientific, Lumilor is an electroluminescent coating system that makes anything into a light. "What we've done with our product is fundamentally re-engineered light so that you can have an object that produces light without changing the object at all," said Shawn Mastrian, CEO of Darkside Scientific. "Just by painting the ...

Custom Steel Drawers

We've got more custom steel pieces! We do a lot of steel work for a local construction company, usually sanding down and applying a clear coat to the finished product. The metal look is gaining popularity in the home decor industry, so it is always interesting to see what the metal will be used for with each particular project. This time we were given these three square drawers that were going to be fit into the wall of a bedroom to make an in-wall dresser. To get the cool, swirled look on the steel, we sanded down the metal all the way. These pieces were covered in carbon, so we sanded it all off, and Tim did some custom DA sanding to ...

Lumilor ePaint featured in Motor Trend Magazine!

ePaint is making it's debut in Motor Trend. We love seeing Lumilor paint jobs featured, especially in a magazine like Motor Trend! The article coined the electroluminescent paint, 'ePaint', for electroluminescence - it's ability to  light up through real electric power. The magazine features the 2016 Camaro Krypton that we saw at the SEMA Show, with electroluminescent Chevy bow ties cascading down the sides. This car was so cool to see in person. It was painted a 'kryptonic green' color with Lumilor just on the bow ties, so it blended in a bit and went together really well. So many people stopped and looked at the car on display, and ...
