Get your helmet painted to match your bike!
It is that time of the year! Time for warm weather, sun and perfect riding conditions. We love getting out on the bike as much as we can during the Spring/Summer/early Fall months. And because Tim is the creative painter that he is, we are constantly changing our paint job on it. Whether we get a new bike or just want to give ours a new look, we have fun with our paint jobs. If we're going to be spending that much time on the bike, we want to love how it looks!
If you're getting a motorcycle paint job or love the current look of your bike, consider painting your helmet to match. Customizing your motorcycle helmet is a fun way to express ...
Video: Thought process behind electroluminescent paint
Darkside Scientific's Andy Zsinko invented Lumilor and explains his thought process behind creating an electroluminescent paint.
Since Andy had custom paint experience, a friend of his wanted him to paint his motorcycle. Andy decided to do something new and different.
"It's pretty easy to get hit when you're not seen," said Zsinko. "I said, well let's make it light up. Do something different, be unique. So I started dabbling with photo-luminescent paint, making it charge by sunlight, blacklight, what have you. But it was failure because you couldn't control it. I said well, photo-luminescent won't work; the only way to go is electrolumin...
New paint job on a Harley Davidson
Originally all black, this awesome looking Harley Davidson motorcycle got a brand new paint job this week. The customers knew they wanted something in the red/ purple family, and flipped through our paint sample books, choosing a deep red-wine, burgundy color called crimson red pearl.
When getting a new paint job done, we recommend browsing through various colors to see what jumps out at you, as well as what will look good on your motorcycle specifically.
There were a lot of pieces to this motorcycle, including the tanks, side bags, fenders and side covers. Here is what the bike parts looked like before...

Move over Glow in the dark paint, Lumilor is here.
Glow in the dark paint is a thing of the past now that we have this amazing new capability to literally paint light, and control it ourselves using a simple on/off switch.
That's right, the new paint product Lumilor is changing the way we can create light. We can now use paint to create a real electric-powered light onto just about anything.
Glow in the dark paint, also known as luminescent paint, has been around since the late 1960's. It is 'charged' by exposure to the light, and the color emitted is a soft green color that fades over time. Glow in the dark paint can be bought in spray cans or as additives for regular paint. We've even seen ...
Chevy K-20 Pickup Truck Paint Job
The latest full paint job was done on a big 1986 Chevy K-20 pickup truck. It was to be painted back to it's factory-original colors; a brown and gold two-toned theme.
The Before Pic...
There was some body work needed before paint. All of the parts were taken off, including the bed, and sanded down and repaired. To prevent rust from popping up underneath the truck and on the bed, we undercoated it, and brush-coated a rust prevention coating called POR on the bed. The glass for the windows was also replaced, as was the rubbers for the windows and doors.
After primer, the first areas to be painted were the back of the bed, that is pushed ...
Painted Brake Calipers
Custom painted brake calipers are a cool way to add a pop of color to the wheels on your vehicle. It adds a nice, subtle look that doesn't immediately jump out at you, but gives it that little something extra that makes the car uniquely yours.
With painted brake calipers, you can add those pops of color to match existing accent pieces, like the other red accents shown on the Mazda RX7 below.
Brake calipers are a part of the disc brake system on your wheel. Depending on how many rotors your car has, there will either be 2 brake calipers for the front wheels, or one on all 4 wheels. They aren't the most aesthetically appealing without ...
Custom metal rails for a Bunk Bed!
It's always fun to see what we're going to get in the shop. It's not always just car repairs and motorcycle paint jobs; sometimes we get some unique requests. This week we've been working on a set of metal rails, a ladder, and some other attachment pieces for what is going to be put together as a really cool Bunk Bed!
These steel rails were sanded down to the pure metal, revealing a cool, custom swirl pattern. After lots of sanding, we painted a clear coat on top so all you see is the raw steel.
It's a very industrial type of look, but also very pretty. The swirls we can make with certain grinders is really cool.
We've done several ...
Light up paint on the Harley (aka Babydoll)
The first LUMILOR electroluminescent paint job to leave TD Customs, folks!
This 2002 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, affectionately known as Babydoll, got a special little detail added to the fairing this week. We painted the name 'Babydoll' in the electroluminescent paint, Lumilor, so it can light up at the flick of a switch.
Lumilor is an Electroluminescent Coating System that allows us to paint light onto almost any surface. The paint contains conductive particles that allow it to light up when electrically charged. It also sprays on like regular paint so it can be turned on and off with a simple switch, so you can decide when ...
Glitter paint job: Make it sparkle!
Our latest custom paint job involved heavy metal flake to customize a white 2015 BMW 328i - a fun glitter paint job! From far away or in the shade, the car will look white. But when you walk up to it, or especially when the sun is hitting it, the new glitter paint job looks bright and sparkly.
The customer had looked online at the different options for metal flake, and found a rainbow color she liked. Keep in mind that the color of the car plays a part in how the flake will look. In this case, the car is white, so the rainbow glitter flake will have a white background that makes the colored flake shimmer lightly in the sunlight. If the glitter ...
