Rust repair: Patching in new panels
Rust repair is a necessary component to most restorations we do since many of them are on old classic cars that have been around for awhile. Rust repair is always easiest when caught early. However, we have repaired extensive rust damage on quite a few cars. When there is a good amount of rust, we generally cut out the affected areas, and replace them with new panels. We'll also spread on a coat of POR-15, an anti-rust paint product that keeps it from coming back again. We recently worked on a truck restoration that needed a lot of rust repair to the cab of the truck, so we decided to document the progress on it here.
The floors had a lot of rust ...
The MGB is yellow no more
The 1973 MGB Roadster has been painted! Originally a bright yellow, the car got restored and painted a fresh blue/ teal color.
This restoration didn't take as long as most because there wasn't as much body work as we typically find. The car also came partially disassembled, so we didn't have to take care of the small parts, like the door handles, lights, grill, etc. And the car is very tiny! Here is the Before...
There was a lot of sanding to be done with this one. Don't let the size of the car fool you; there's still a lot of surface area that had to be completely sanded down. It was all hands on deck as we spent a few days sanding on ...
Yellow MGB Roadster Going Green
Good things come in small packages, especially when we're talking about the classic MGB. This 1973 MGB Roadster is one of the next restorations we are working on. The MGB is starting out yellow and going to be painted a dark teal/ green color. It's always a little more fun to see a car go from one color to something completely different.
This car is so little that it probably won't take long to complete. We've started sanding it down and getting it ready for body work. We will be manually block sanding the entire car, making sure to hit every inch so that the paint will go on nice and smooth so that no speck of yellow will be left on ...
Next Restoration: 1970 Trans Am
We are definitely keeping very busy with restoration work lately. After finishing up the F100 restoration, we are diving right into this 1970 Trans Am. It will be getting the full restoration treatment and a beautiful (blue!) paint job.
Here is the Before...
This car is going from the maroon/ burgundy color you see here to the factory original blue it used to come in back in 1970. Here is a picture of what the Trans Am is going to look like when we are done. It's great when customers can bring in pictures and specific colors to show us exactly how they want their car to look. This car is going to look great in blue, especially with the ...
Wood truck bed
We just love the look of wood in a classic truck bed! It looks so classy and gives the truck a little something extra. This truck bed is from the 1967 Ford F-100 restoration we recently did. The color in the wood goes perfectly with the Holly Green paint the truck was painted.
Many of the truck restorations we've done involve painting the truck bed the same color as the rest of truck. Our latest truck restoration was one of the few we've done that went with a classic wood bed instead. In between the wood boards are nice chrome dividers that also add to its visual appeal. Even the bolts are chrome to embellish the look a bit more. You can even ...
Completed Restoration: 1967 F-100
The 1967 Ford F-100 full restoration is now complete! This classic truck restoration has been an extensive restoration project for a few months now. Many restorations don't involve a complete disassembly where we take the cab and bed off the chassis, like we did here. For this one, we took the entire truck apart to repair every part and panel, and assembled it all back together.
The truck originally belonged to the owner's grandfather. So, for sentimental reasons, he wanted to keep the cab of the truck. We definitely understand this way of thinking. We feel the same way about our cars, especially those that we remember driving 'back in ...
Back to Factory Original Paint Colors
Factory original paint colors tend to bring back a sense of nostalgia for the good old days. Many older vehicles or specific motorcycles are easily recognizable because of their distinct paint job.
We tend to see factory original paint be of importance to those driving old trucks, as well as motorcycles. Many older farm trucks have the two-toned design, and are very recognizable with their specific colors. Owners like the appeal of driving a truck that looks just as it did back in the day, but is also new enough that the color shines and the body lines of the truck are perfect.
Many of these older trucks that come in for restorations and new ...
So much progress on the F100 Resto
Lots more progress has been made on the 1967 Ford F-100 truck restoration we've been working on. Aside from the smaller jobs we've gotten in and out in the last month, we have mainly been focusing on getting this restoration done.
This classic restoration required a 100% disassembly job as every single part had to come off of the truck. We repaired the parts we had to work with, as well as using new parts ordered by the owner. The body work is done on these parts and they're all in primer.
There has been a lot of body work done on this truck. We've been spending a lot of time on the cab of the truck, repairing rust and getting the body ...
Ruthy’s Restoration: Disassembly Continues
This Saturday, we had a family day at the shop working on Ruthy, a '39 Chrysler Royal. We're working on getting all the parts taken off the car, including the back fenders and the front grill, as well as taking off surface rust from the fenders and the floor of the car.
Disassembly is the messiest part of the restoration process. All of the parts need to be take off so they can be worked on individually. We took off the back fenders, which took a little work getting the bolts loose. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy many of the bolts came out on the car, but some of them did give us trouble and had to be cut out with a grinder.

Progress on the ’67 F-100 Restoration
Restoration on the 1967 Ford F-100 stepside truck is in full swing. As you can see, the truck started out green. It will be getting a new shiny 'holly green' paint job that will have it sparkling in the sun.
Most of the body, including the hood and doors, was sanded down to bare metal. There was a lot of body work to be done. The shop definitely smelled like bondo for a couple days! All the body work done on these auto restorations is well worth it to get those smooth, flawless lines we need. After the truck is painted, you will be able to see every little ding or wave in a panel, so we make sure the body work is always done perfectly so ...
