Mountain Motor Show 4.2.16

td customs restoration at the mountain motor show
We stopped by the Mountain Motor Show this weekend at the WNC Agricultural Center, and got to see some great builds! They had an indoor and outdoor section that held vendors and their booths, as well as those who registered their car to be included. Space was limited, so they only selected the top entries. And look what we ran into - one of our customers' restorations at the car show! A lot of our customers enjoy our local Asheville car shows and bring their cars out for others to see whenever they can. It's great to run into these cars that we put so much ...

Meet our shop buddy, Rod Knock

custom metal fabrication shop buddy
It all started with a rod knock. "Hey, do you hear that?" I say no. I rarely ever hear what he is referring to. Tim has some sort of sixth sense for how his car is feeling at all times. But apparently, there was a rod knocking in the engine. Not good. After that, it started to overheat and have a bunch of other issues. The El Camino overhaul has been a dream for awhile now. It already has a sweet custom paint job on it (black with red ghost flames), but we want to kick the paint job up a notch with some new colors and of course, Lumilor! Now that we're a ...

Our customers keep in touch!

classic restoration mills river nc td customs
We got a nice visit from a wonderful customer of ours the other day. We've done a restoration on one of Pete's cars before; an Oldsmobile Cutlass 442. It was a complete ground up restoration, and one of the first that we did in this building. He's a great guy and a loyal customer, who's brought us a couple other cars and referred us to his friends and family. And every once in a while, he stops by just to say hi! He has a lot of cool cars, and likes to drive them all. This time, he brought the '29 Chevy. He remembered that we do a calendar every year with all the ...

Happy 4 Years to TD Customs!

td customs paint & body
We can't believe it's been four years that TD Customs has been in business, and three years that we have been at this Mills River location. Time sure flies when you're having fun! In 2011, Tim moved to North Carolina, and began working for himself shortly after. He worked out of his 6-car garage in Hendersonville for about a year, and then it didn't take long for him to build up a customer base and begin needing more space. From there, we found this shop in Mills River, installed a state of the art paint booth, upgraded a lot of things, and have been working away ever ...

SEMA. Basically, Disneyland for Car Enthusiasts

sema cars outside
The SEMA Show is a HUGE annual automotive trade show that we were very excited to attend. Anyone who's anyone in the automotive world goes to SEMA to showcase their products and latest builds. It's not open to the public, so you have to be in the industry to attend. People come from all over the world for this show. Even before we ever realistically thought about going, Tim has said he's wanted to go. Coincidentally, we were going to be in Las Vegas for Lumilor training around the time of the show, so we made sure to get tickets. There is so much to see at the SEMA ...

The body shop gets a spruce

arden body shop
Every once in a while, it's time for a little spruce. We've slowly been making changes and cleaning up the shop, but this week we decided to redecorate the front office area of our body shop to make it more fun and inviting. One of the real motivators was that we got so much promotional stuff at the SEMA Show that we needed a place to show it all off. We got a lot of cool posters (quite a few signed!) and pictures, so we knew we wanted to completely redecorate the front office of the shop. The Before... We've been meaning to paint the front room for some ...

Whirlwind Vegas trip!

von hotrod lamp goes to td customs
We are home after a couple great weeks in Las Vegas. It was a long trip, but so worth it! Being in Vegas was lots of fun. We gambled a little bit, ate some great meals, and did all the touristy things, like watch the Bellagio fountains, checked out Counts' Kustoms, and even made it to the Hoover Dam. It was a business trip though, with Tim there for Lumilor training and us attending the SEMA Show. Primarily and most importantly, we were there for Lumilor training, which could not have gone better. Tim LOVED the class and really enjoyed learning this new ...
