Lumilor ePaint featured in Motor Trend Magazine!

ePaint is making it's debut in Motor Trend. We love seeing Lumilor paint jobs featured, especially in a magazine like Motor Trend! The article coined the electroluminescent paint, 'ePaint', for electroluminescence - it's ability to  light up through real electric power. The magazine features the 2016 Camaro Krypton that we saw at the SEMA Show, with electroluminescent Chevy bow ties cascading down the sides. This car was so cool to see in person. It was painted a 'kryptonic green' color with Lumilor just on the bow ties, so it blended in a bit and went together really well. So many people stopped and looked at the car on display, and ...

Car trouble in this crazy winter weather

Winter weather, especially here in the Carolinas, can sure wreck havoc on the roads, and thus our vehicles. This past weekend, we were advised to stay home rather than driving out on dangerous roads. In fact, most people across WNC and the SC Upstate had a long weekend due to the snow. Driving on dangerous roads may lead to accidents with other drivers on the road, or even cause your car to skid off the road and possibly hit a tree or other object. Not having 4-wheel drive made driving nearly impossible this weekend, but even those trucks with 4WD and great tires experienced difficulties on the roads. There were many accidents reported out ...

Staying Safe on Winter Roads in WNC

Winter has finally arrived in NC. After an abnormally warm start, we're now expecting our first big storm. Some people are saying we'll get 28", but that would literally be breaking every snowfall record NC's ever seen. At any rate, big winter storms do cause havoc out on the roads, and increase the risk of getting into a car accident. Here in North Carolina, they describe the level of snowstorm intensity with a complicated system of quantifying how much milk and bread loaves will be needed for survival. That's right, the news station informs us of how many loaves of bread we should buy before we hunker down in our homes. For example, a storm ...

Items to include in your Emergency Roadside Kit

Having an emergency roadside kit in your car is important because accidents do happen, and you will thank yourself for being prepared if you are ever in that situation. We never plan for things to go wrong, for our cars to break down, or for us to be stuck on the side of the road. But preparing for such an event can make a world of difference if something ever happens. Even if you have roadside assistance with AAA, it's just a little backup just in case. Take the time to think about your emergency roadside kit now, so if you ever need it you aren't stuck in your car wishing you had put together a little kit of the things you need. You can even buy ...

Move over Glow in the dark paint, Lumilor is here.

Glow in the dark paint is a thing of the past now that we have this amazing new capability to literally paint light, and control it ourselves using a simple on/off switch. That's right, the new paint product Lumilor is changing the way we can create light. We can now use paint to create a real electric-powered light onto just about anything. Glow in the dark paint, also known as luminescent paint, has been around since the late 1960's. It is 'charged' by exposure to the light, and the color emitted is a soft green color that fades over time. Glow in the dark paint can be bought in spray cans or as additives for regular paint. We've even seen ...

Chevy K-20 Pickup Truck Paint Job

The latest full paint job was done on a big 1986 Chevy K-20 pickup truck. It was to be painted back to it's factory-original colors; a brown and gold two-toned theme. The Before Pic... There was some body work needed before paint. All of the parts were taken off, including the bed, and sanded down and repaired. To prevent rust from popping up underneath the truck and on the bed, we undercoated it, and brush-coated a rust prevention coating called POR on the bed. The glass for the windows was also replaced, as was the rubbers for the windows and doors. After primer, the first areas to be painted were the back of the bed, that is pushed ...

Painted Brake Calipers

Custom painted brake calipers are a cool way to add a pop of color to the wheels on your vehicle. It adds a nice, subtle look that doesn't immediately jump out at you, but gives it that little something extra that makes the car uniquely yours. With painted brake calipers,  you can add those pops of color to match existing accent pieces, like the other red accents shown on the Mazda RX7 below. Brake calipers are a part of the disc brake system on your wheel. Depending on how many rotors your car has, there will either be 2 brake calipers for the front wheels, or one on all 4 wheels. They aren't the most aesthetically appealing without ...

Fast turnaround on body work

We are always so amazed when we hear people say that their car/ truck/ motorcycle has been at another body shop for months or even years. We wonder what could possibly take that shop so long to get the repairs done. Unless specifically agreed on for some reason, it should never take a year to get body work or paint done! At TD Customs, we will never let your vehicle just sit in the back of the shop. We don't procrastinate. If we don't have the time, space or ability to do a job, we don't take it on. We proudly offer quality work with fast turnaround times because our customers will appreciate it, and it's just good business. How long will ...

Custom metal rails for a Bunk Bed!

It's always fun to see what we're going to get in the shop. It's not always just car repairs and motorcycle paint jobs; sometimes we get some unique requests. This week we've been working on a set of metal rails, a ladder, and some other attachment pieces for what is going to be put together as a really cool Bunk Bed! These steel rails were sanded down to the pure metal, revealing a cool, custom swirl pattern. After lots of sanding, we painted a clear coat on top so all  you see is the raw steel. It's a very industrial type of look, but also very pretty. The swirls we can make with certain grinders is really cool. We've done several ...
