Full restoration: ’82 F-150 pickup
The 1982 Ford F-150 pickup truck is one of our latest restorations that we've been working on. This one has been in the works for a few months now, needing more attention than some of the others.
The last time we saw the F-150 on the blog was here, and the bed and the cab were being worked on separately. After that, we painted the cab and the front side of the bed (the part that sits up against the cab).
Once these were painted, we put the bed back on the chassis to make it a complete truck again. This makes it easier to paint the entire exterior. Especia...
Progress Update on the 1967 Mustang
The latest classic restoration project in the shop is a 1967 Ford Mustang with some metal and body work already done.
As you can see from the photo above, it was brought in by Top Notch Towing, our preferred towing company. Many of our older restorations come in on flatbeds since often, customers will get the body work and paint portion of the car done first, and any motor work later.
The roof and the trunk lid have taken a lot of body work. The owner knows this car sat in a field for awhile, and suspects that some kids walked on top of it. Now it's up to ...
Cars are not just cars; they’re memories
For many of us, cars are not just cars. They hold special memories that take us back and remind us of where we were and who we were with.
Right now we're working on a family restoration for Tim's grandmother. This car will take her back to being 16 years old in upstate New York, when she first learned to drive. It'll take her back to memories of when she first met and dated her husband of over 60 years now. We've already heard how she named the car Ruthy after buying it from a nice, older lady with the same name.
This is a family project, and whenever family is in ...
Major Progress on Ruthy, the ’39 Chrysler
The last couple weeks have been very productive for Ms. Ruthy, our '39 Chrysler Royal restoration that we are doing as a family project.
This week, while Tim was working on the more advanced body work on our F-150 restoration, Erick sanded down the surface of the car. We'll strip the paint off on certain parts of the car, like the doors and the hood. For the main body though, we're sanding it down with the DA sander.
There were rust holes that needed to be patched with new steel on the rear wheel arches. This week, Erick welded the patches in and finished up ...
Ruthy got a visit from family this Thanksgiving!
Ruthy got to have some family time this Thanksgiving weekend! Tim's family was in town and all got together to work on this exciting restoration.
Ruthy is a family project here in the shop. It's Tim's grandma's very first car - a '39 Chrysler Royal.
(For those of you who are not yet familiar with this restoration, read Ruthy's story and browse through all the other progress updates here.)
Little by little, we are chipping away at the work that needs to be done on the car to bring it back to its original condition. Every little bit helps, and it was a productive ...
’62 Chevy Impala Refinish & Paint
The 1962 Chevy Impala Classic is our latest full classic restoration. It needed rust repair, body work and a brand new color.
The car looked very unique when it first came in. The paint had been stripped down already. In a few different places, there were some cool spiderwebs and pin-striping. Take a look at the different designs below.
Of course, we didn't keep the pin striping. The owners chose a beautiful blue color for the Impala. It looks great both inside and in the sun. Here is the finished product after body work and fresh paint!
The body of ...
Little Red Corvette: A Race Car
One of the latest paint jobs we've been working on is this 1981 Chevy Corvette. With its huge rear tires, roll cage, and now a bright red paint job, this race car is definitely an eye grabber!
The car came to us in primer. The owner had done some of the body work on his own, and painted the door jambs. He did a great job getting the body work started. We just needed to fix a few cracks in the fiberglass and finish up the minor body waves down the panels, and, of course, get it painted.
Here is the Before picture..
The paint color is Brilliant Red ...
Progress: ’82 F-150 Restoration
The '82 Ford F-150 truck restoration is in full swing. This is a factory original restoration, so it'll be getting refinished and painted back to the original blue and white paint scheme.
1982 F-150 Factory Original Restoration
Let's start with the Before picture...
There is quite a bit of rust, so we're repairing it all, as well as refinishing the entire truck. We're also applying an anti-rust undercoat to the chassis.
The cab has been repaired in certain areas, and is now in primer. The chassis has also been given a thick coat of the powerful, anti-rust ...
1951 Chevy Truck Restoration
Look what we've got back in the shop! The beautiful 1951 Chevy truck we restored and painted in pieces a few years ago.
This restoration was done a little differently than most because the owner wanted to put the truck back together himself. He would bring us a set of parts and as we completed them, he'd bring us another, until we finished every part down to the cab.
Here is how we last saw the '51 Chevy truck...
This truck is very sentimental for the owner. His late father bought the truck brand NEW back in 1951. In 2013, he brought the truck to us to ...
1968 Pontiac LeMans Restoration
The latest classic restoration to leave TD Customs was the 1968 Pontiac LeMans. When it came in, the car needed body work and a variety of other repairs. It was green, and getting refinished back to almost the same color, yet slightly darker.
Here is what the Lemans looked like Before...
The biggest part of every restoration is making sure the body of the car is as smooth and straight as possible. Specifically with this car, we also had to make sure to realign the panels with the correct gaps, which was an issue. Making sure all the panels, such as the doors ...
