Meet our shop buddy, Rod Knock
It all started with a rod knock.
"Hey, do you hear that?"
I say no. I rarely ever hear what he is referring to. Tim has some sort of sixth sense for how his car is feeling at all times. But apparently, there was a rod knocking in the engine. Not good. After that, it started to overheat and have a bunch of other issues.
The El Camino overhaul has been a dream for awhile now. It already has a sweet custom paint job on it (black with red ghost flames), but we want to kick the paint job up a notch with some new colors and of course, Lumilor! Now that we're a ...
Ruthy Restoration: Full Clean
Ruthy looks like a fresh, clean slate now that we have cleaned out the entire car from top to bottom, as well as disassembled most of the parts. She's down to bare bones, and we can now start on the body work bit by bit.
We had several messy days of working on disassembly, so we needed to clean up that entire corner of the shop and every bit of dirt and debris within the car and engine bay. This entailed scrapping dried on debris and rust, and vacuuming it all out.
It's amazing the difference it makes just cleaning off the motor and engine bay. I'd say ...
Marble Effect Paint
Marble effect paint is a cool way to add some detail to your car or motorcycle's paint job. Rather than a solid color, the marble effect adds a look of texture and interest that take the paint job to the next level.

Lumilor Featured on Science Channel’s ‘Outrageous Acts of Science’
The illuminating paint, Lumilor, was featured on the Science Channel this weekend! The show, Outrageous Acts of Science, did a countdown of several top extraordinary inventions that utilize science in the most amazing ways.
Which brings us to our favorite invention, Electroluminescent Paint!
Developed in Ohio by Darkside Scientific, Lumilor is an electroluminescent coating system that makes anything into a light.
"What we've done with our product is fundamentally re-engineered light so that you can have an object that produces light without changing the object ...
Quick repairs: In & out in 24 hours
Quick repairs keep us busy and our customers happy. It's a win-win. Last week, we were able to get this Mustang in for some quick body repairs and provide a 24-hour turnaround time. We can't always promise one-day turnaround, but especially when it comes to collision repairs, we generally only have the car for a few days. We like to schedule these quick repairs so they'll be in the shop for only the amount of time we need to work on it. That way, you also won't be without your car any longer than necessary.
This job called for body work repairs in several areas down ...
Ruthy’s Restoration: Disassembly Continues
This Saturday, we had a family day at the shop working on Ruthy, a '39 Chrysler Royal. We're working on getting all the parts taken off the car, including the back fenders and the front grill, as well as taking off surface rust from the fenders and the floor of the car.
Disassembly is the messiest part of the restoration process. All of the parts need to be take off so they can be worked on individually. We took off the back fenders, which took a little work getting the bolts loose. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy many of the bolts came out on the car, but ...
Custom Steel Drawers
We've got more custom steel pieces! We do a lot of steel work for a local construction company, usually sanding down and applying a clear coat to the finished product. The metal look is gaining popularity in the home decor industry, so it is always interesting to see what the metal will be used for with each particular project.
This time we were given these three square drawers that were going to be fit into the wall of a bedroom to make an in-wall dresser.
To get the cool, swirled look on the steel, we sanded down the metal all the way. These pieces were ...
Progress on the ’67 F-100 Restoration
Restoration on the 1967 Ford F-100 stepside truck is in full swing. As you can see, the truck started out green. It will be getting a new shiny 'holly green' paint job that will have it sparkling in the sun.
Most of the body, including the hood and doors, was sanded down to bare metal. There was a lot of body work to be done. The shop definitely smelled like bondo for a couple days! All the body work done on these auto restorations is well worth it to get those smooth, flawless lines we need. After the truck is painted, you will be able to see every little ...
Lumilor ePaint featured in Motor Trend Magazine!
ePaint is making it's debut in Motor Trend. We love seeing Lumilor paint jobs featured, especially in a magazine like Motor Trend! The article coined the electroluminescent paint, 'ePaint', for electroluminescence - it's ability to light up through real electric power.
The magazine features the 2016 Camaro Krypton that we saw at the SEMA Show, with electroluminescent Chevy bow ties cascading down the sides. This car was so cool to see in person. It was painted a 'kryptonic green' color with Lumilor just on the bow ties, so it blended in a bit and went ...
Car trouble in this crazy winter weather
Winter weather, especially here in the Carolinas, can sure wreck havoc on the roads, and thus our vehicles. This past weekend, we were advised to stay home rather than driving out on dangerous roads. In fact, most people across WNC and the SC Upstate had a long weekend due to the snow.
Driving on dangerous roads may lead to accidents with other drivers on the road, or even cause your car to skid off the road and possibly hit a tree or other object. Not having 4-wheel drive made driving nearly impossible this weekend, but even those trucks with 4WD and great tires ...
