Trans Am Transformation!

TD Customs classic restoration
This 1970 Trans Am was originally a dark red/ maroon color with white accents, and has gotten painted back to the factory-original blue with white accents. The owner gave us a poster of the car with the paint scheme he wanted for inspiration. It's always nice when we get to see such a drastic difference in the paint jobs we do. Getting all the body work taken care of, and going from dark red to a true blue color has truly transformed the car. Here is what the TA looked like when it was first brought in. With this restoration, we stripped the paint off and ...

Trans Am in primer. Next up; prep & paint!

Trans Am restoration in primer
We're making lots of progress on the Trans Am restoration, and it'll be ready for paint in the next week. Once we really got into the body work on this car, we realized there was more body damage than we originally thought. Sometimes the car just takes a little more work to get it perfectly straight. A paint job won't look good if the body work is not done right. Once a car is painted, it's easy to see all the little waves and imperfections, so this is really the most crucial part of the restoration and the part that takes the longest to do. Our shop has been ...

El Camino rebuild is under way!

td customs ELCO el camino in primer
The El Camino rebuild is officially under way! We've finally been able to make some time to get the TD Customs El Camino in for a full restoration and a new, next level custom paint job. Everything is getting overhauled. Even the motor is going to match the paint job. You don't see many motors like this one... The first priority was to get it completely sanded down and ready for paint. This included doing the body work on some of the waves in the panels and random dings here and there. It was already pretty straight since Tim had done body work when painted it ...

Trans Am Restoration Update

body shop asheville td customs
We've been diving into the Trans Am restoration this week, getting the whole car stripped down to bare metal and doing body work on the areas that need it. We had stripped the paint off with a paint stripper compound to get most of it off. Then, we took each individual part and sanded it down to bare metal and started doing the repairs. Some parts needed metal work done, while others needed body work, and some both. The job is to get the car as straight as possible, removing any dents and dings and waves in the body. There was some metal work to be done on the ...

The MGB is yellow no more

mgb classic restoration Asheville NC
The 1973 MGB Roadster has been painted! Originally a bright yellow, the car got restored and painted a fresh blue/ teal color. This restoration didn't take as long as most because there wasn't as much body work as we typically find. The car also came partially disassembled, so we didn't have to take care of the small parts, like the door handles, lights, grill, etc. And the car is very tiny! Here is the Before... There was a lot of sanding to be done with this one. Don't let the size of the car fool you; there's still a lot of surface area that had to be ...

Ruthy: Interior Rust Prevention

Ruthy got some attention last week when Tim's parents were in town. For those that don't know, Ruthy is the family restoration project we have in the shop. The '39 Chrysler Royal belongs to Tim's grandmother and is getting a full restoration. It was her very first car, and the whole family is getting to help out on it. Gail and Rex wanted to do as much as they could on Ruthy while they were here, and were assigned the job of 'PORing' the interior and some other parts. They scrapped out more of the inside of the car and applied a full coat of POR over the entire roof ...

Yellow MGB Roadster Going Green

classic restoration 73 mgb
Good things come in small packages, especially when we're talking about the classic MGB. This 1973 MGB Roadster is one of the next restorations we are working on. The MGB is starting out yellow and going to be painted a dark teal/ green color. It's always a little more fun to see a car go from one color to something completely different. This car is so little that it probably won't take long to complete. We've started sanding it down and getting it ready for body work. We will be manually block sanding the entire car, making sure to hit every inch so that ...

Next Restoration: 1970 Trans Am

auto restoration process
We are definitely keeping very busy with restoration work lately. After finishing up the F100 restoration, we are diving right into this 1970 Trans Am. It will be getting the full restoration treatment and a beautiful (blue!) paint job. Here is the Before... This car is going from the maroon/ burgundy color you see here to the factory original blue it used to come in back in 1970. Here is a picture of what the Trans Am is going to look like when we are done. It's great when customers can bring in pictures and specific colors to show us exactly how they want ...

Wood truck bed

wood truck bed asheville body shop
We just love the look of wood in a classic truck bed! It looks so classy and gives the truck a little something extra. This truck bed is from the 1967 Ford F-100 restoration we recently did. The color in the wood goes perfectly with the Holly Green paint the truck was painted. Many of the truck restorations we've done involve painting the truck bed the same color as the rest of truck. Our latest truck restoration was one of the few we've done that went with a classic wood bed instead. In between the wood boards are nice chrome dividers that also add to its visual ...

Completed Restoration: 1967 F-100

classic truck restoration asheville
The 1967 Ford F-100 full restoration is now complete! This classic truck restoration has been an extensive restoration project for a few months now. Many restorations don't involve a complete disassembly where we take the cab and bed off the chassis, like we did here. For this one, we took the entire truck apart to repair every part and panel, and assembled it all back together. The truck originally belonged to the owner's grandfather. So, for sentimental reasons, he wanted to keep the cab of the truck. We definitely understand this way of thinking. We feel ...
